For the past four years, NewWave (Onyx’s parent company) has supported CMS’ mission to deliver the Blue Button 2.0 API that provides health information for 53M Medicare beneficiaries.
In partnership with HealthAPT, we provided the team that constructed the data pipeline and FHIR platform that stores 12 billion records securely in the cloud from where beneficiaries can authorize the applications and services they trust.
The overall design of the Blue Button 2.0 API was created by NewWave’s entrepreneur-in-residence and CMS Blue Button innovator, Mark Scrimshire. As the first person on the Blue Button 2.0 project, Mark built the original proof of concept, established the secure authorization methods based on OAuth2.0, a first for CMS. He continues to promote the Blue Button 2.0 API to healthcare organizations across the industry and nurtures the growing community of more than 1,000 organizations that are working with the API.
But the work with Blue Button 2.0 has not stopped there. Onyx has built upon NewWave’s Blue Button 2.0 experience to build powerful FHIR-based platforms. SAFHIR leverages FHIR to deliver powerful, scalable interoperability solutions to provide data to patients online and through mobile applications including our own MyCareAI, which provides patients with the ability to get better insight into their care and the benefits they receive.
